About

Minsuh is an anthropology student studying Korean mudangs — shamanic practitioners she has always treated as research subjects, performers skilled at pleasing academics. Then she develops shinbyeong, the "holy sickness" that traditionally marks a person as called by the spirits. Her rationalist framework collapses. The spirits she studied as folklore are now inside her body, and the only person who can help is a mudang she would once have dismissed. Part of the Lovecraft Reanimated project — Korean speculative fiction writers reimagining Lovecraftian horror through Korean cultural lenses — Alien Gods replaces cosmic dread with something more intimate: the terror of discovering that the thing you spent your career analyzing is real, and it wants you. A horror novel about the moment the researcher becomes the subject.
