Yuanyuan falls in love with bubbles at five months old — and never stops. Her father despairs at her obsession, seeing it as childish frivolity while their city dies of drought. But Yuanyuan's single-minded pursuit of bigger and bigger bubbles leads her to a breakthrough that might save everyone — if her father can accept that his daughter's dream was never as small as it looked. Cixin Liu's story — adapted here into a graphic novel — is a fable about the gap between what looks like play and what turns out to be genius. It's also one of Liu's gentlest works: a father-daughter story wrapped in hard science fiction.
