Takeshi Obata is a Japanese manga artist best known as the illustrator of Death Note (with writer Tsugumi Ohba) and Hikaru no Go (with writer Yumi Hotta), two of the most celebrated manga series of the 2000s. Death Note — a psychological cat-and-mouse thriller about a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that kills whoever's name is written in it — became a global phenomenon and is one of the best-selling manga of all time.
