Sosuke Natsukawa

🇯🇵Japan

Sosuke Natsukawa is a Japanese physician and novelist whose debut novel The Cat Who Saved Books (Hon no Mushi ga Hora Ana de Matte iru, 2021) — translated into English by Louise Heal Kawai — became an international bestseller through its gentle, earnest love for books and reading. The novel follows a bookish teenager who is recruited by a talking cat to undertake a series of quests to save literature, with each journey offering a philosophical meditation on why stories matter.

The book arrived at a moment when many readers needed exactly what it offered — a warm, thoughtful affirmation of the importance of literature — and its success reflects how universal that need is. Natsukawa writes with a doctor's care for the fragile and a reader's devotion to the word.
